EDSITEMENT

EDSITEment - The Best of the Humanities on the Web

What are the ways to find a lesson.

If there are several lesson plans on same topic, you first look at a curriculum unit.

Let's take "Birth of an American Empire."
The Birth of an American Empire | EDSITEment
http://edsitement.neh.gov/curriculum-unit/birth-american-empire

Notice the three major sections:

  • THE UNIT
  • THE LESSON
  • THE BASICS

I go right to THE LESSON tab.

THE LESSON

This section lays out each of the four individual lessons in the overall unit.

Let's look at how one individual lesson is laid out.

There are three categories for each lesson:

1. The Lesson (this section has the real meat of the lesson)
2. The Basics (I tend to skip this section)
3. Resources (I tend to skip this section)

Now let's work through The Lesson.

On the left sidebar are some of the same categories we have seen already:

a. Introduction
b. Guiding Questions
c. Learning Objectives
d. Background
e. Preparation Instructions

Then several new categories:

Lesson Activities: Here is the heart of the lesson

Assessment (I skip this)

Extending the Lesson (I have used this section to expand my bookmarks of terrific scholarly websites)
